Inspired by the movement of process and an artistic resistance to institutional rigidity, we made a collectively shared experience to celebrate the studio, on the runway.
We joined forces with the York Festival of Ideas to host two fashion-themed talks prior to the show.
Clair Hughes spoke about class conflict, gendered etiquette and national allegiances through the history of hats, which revealed the complex culture systems from which each style emerges.
The other was given by V&A curator Cassie Davies-Strodder, who took us through the curation process of the V&A Museum’s summer fashion exhibition Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion.
The exhibition celebrated the vision and legacy of Cristóbal Balenciaga, one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century.
